Organisation

Asylum Support Appeals Project (ASAP) is a charity organisation which aims to protect asylum seekers' legal right to food and shelter. We aim to ensure that asylum seekers have access to competent legal advice and representation concerning asylum support appeals. At the moment, 99% of asylum seekers have no legal representative when they have appeal (oral) hearings. Asylum support appeals are appeals against BIA's decision to refuse or stop support.

ASAP works as a second tier advice agency for voluntary sector advice agencies and refugee community organisations who give advice to asylum seekers on asylum support issues. This means that we are normally not able to give advice directly to asylum seekers.

ASAP is independent from the Borders and Immigration Agency (BIA). We also try to influence policies affecting asylum seekers' rights to basic support.

ASAP can provide legal advice and guidance on asylum support appeals (NASS appeals) to advisors via our telephone helpline and training courses. ASAP also runs a court Duty Scheme at the Asylum Support Tribunal in Croydon on Mondays and Thursdays.
