• GUIDELINES FOR MAKING AN APPEAL TO THE ASYLUM SUPPORT TRIBUNAL.
This fact sheet provides a guide on how to complete an appeal to the Asylum Support Tribunal. It covers questions such as what is the AST, who can appeal to the AST and those with no right of appeal. It also looks are practicalities such as completing the appeal notice, time limits for appeals and what happens once an appeal has been sent. Finally, it highlights some of the reasons BIA might refuse or withdraw support and the types of grounds that could be included in an appeal.

• PROVING DESTITUTION – PREPARING YOUR CLIENT FOR AN AST HEARING
The fact sheet give details of the type of evidence a person will be expected to provide to the AST to prove they are destitute. It lists the types of information the AST may request before a hearing and the types of questions a person will be asked during their hearing.

• SECTION 9 – WITHDRAWAL OF SUPPORT TO FAILED ASYLUM SEEKING FAMILIES
This fact sheet explains recent legislation, referred to as Section 9, which gives the Home Office the power to remove support to families who are at the end of the asylum process. It outlines the procedures the Home Office must follow before withdrawing support. It also provides information on the right to appeal to the AST and a list of possible challenges against the removal of support.

Please not that at the time of writing Section 9 has only been applied on a pilot basis to a hundred and fifty families across the UK. The pilot is currently been reviewed by the government but, to date, there have been no plans to extend the policy to other families in the UK. The Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Bill provides the Government the power to repeal Section 9 should it choose to do so.

• AFTER A NEGATIVE DECISION AT THE ASYLUM SUPPORT TRIBUNAL
This fact sheet outlines other remedies that can be taken to avoid destitution after a negative decision at the AST. This includes circumstances which may trigger re-entitlement to support such as a change in living conditions or the making of a fresh claim. In addition it discusses the possibility of Judicial Review following the decision of the AST to dismiss an appeal.

This fact sheet outlines which groups of asylum seekers may qualify for support from Social Services, such as unaccompanied minors and those suffering from mental and physical health problems. It also explains why some asylum seekers, particularly those who reached the end of the asylum process, may be excluded from accessing support from Social Services.
